What happens in a surfing lesson?
Our lessons involve a 90-minute class where you learn the fundamentals of surfing to have the best possible experience tailored to your needs.
We then move onto getting you out into the water for the second portion, where everything you learned on the beach is put to the test. But most importantly, it’s all about the Ryde and the smiles that come with it!
Is surfing safe?
Safety is our #1 priority. We use soft-top surfboards, which are beginner-friendly and designed with safety in mind — featuring soft decks and flexible fins. Before you hit the water, our experienced instructors will walk you through everything you need to know to stay safe and confident out there. We also keep our student-to-instructor ratios low, especially in small group lessons, so you get the attention and support you need every step of the way.
What if the weather & ocean conditions don’t seem safe to surf?
At Coronado Surfing Academy, your safety and enjoyment come first. While coastal conditions are usually ideal, the ocean can be unpredictable. If the weather or surf doesn’t look safe, we follow a simple rule: “If in doubt, we don’t go out.” Our instructors are trained to assess conditions and will always err on the side of caution to ensure a safe and positive experience.
What should I expect?
Expect good vibes, salty air, and a lesson tailored just for you. Whether you’re brand new or looking to level up your skills, we’ll meet you where you are. Each session kicks off on the sand, where your instructor will walk you through the basics — from popping up to proper stance — before you hit the waves. It’s all about building confidence, having fun, and making your time in the water unforgettable.
How old do I have to be, and does my lesson include equipment?
We recommend surf lessons for ages 7 and up. Every lesson includes all the gear you’ll need — surfboard, wetsuit, and good vibes included.
When should I schedule my lesson?
The earlier, the better! Our lessons can fill up fast — especially during peak season — so we recommend booking in advance to lock in your preferred time. That way, you’ll avoid any scheduling surprises and get straight to the fun part: surfing!
What should I bring?
Just the basics! We suggest bringing: – A towel – Sunscreen – Swimwear – Comfy clothes for before and after. That’s it — we’ll take care of the rest. Just show up ready to surf and have a great time!
